Emotional Struggles - You might feel like your emotions are out of control—overwhelmed by shame, fear, or feelings of worthlessness. Obsessive thoughts and intense fight or flight can make it feel like your emotions are in control, no matter how hard you try. This can leave you feeling stuck, unable to move toward your values and goals.

Relationship Challenges - Trusting others or building and maintaining healthy relationships can feel difficult. You may find yourself pushing people away, or clinging on too tightly. You may experience loneliness or isolation, feeling like it is safer to be alone, or terrified of abandonment.

Physical Symptoms - Sometimes, trauma shows up physically. You might experience headaches, dizziness, stomach aches, chest pains, chronic pain, or ongoing fatigue. Many chronic illnesses can be linked to trauma and emotional distress, due to persistent stress response (fight or flight).

You may feel numb, emotionless, or that it is hard to connect with your inner self. This can make it hard to be present in the moment and know how or what you feel.

Re-experiencing - You might find that memories of what happened keep coming up, even when you don’t want them to. These intrusive thoughts can feel out of your control, replaying the trauma as if it’s happening all over again.
