Sex addiction and pornography addiction are not formally recognised diagnoses under the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). The International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) recognises Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD), defined as a persistent pattern of failure to control intense, repetitive sexual impulses or behaviours resulting in marked distress or functional impairment. Any reference to “sex addiction” or “pornography addiction” is used descriptively only and is intended to refer to behaviours consistent with Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD) as recognised in the ICD-11.
